Here is a successful story sent to us from the folks at United Way of Iredell County.

Folks in Statesville, NC have been busy over the last couple of months planning & organizing the event to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Continuous Music Concert by Multiple Artists and all the hard work paid off.  The Guinness World Record Music Marathon in Statesville ran from 8:53 a.m. on March 19 until 12 midnight on March 29 without a break in the music.  Performers were local, regional with a few from as far away as Pennsylvania, Kentucky, etc.  Chris Bumgarner, 38 year old entrepreneur publishing the weekly newspaper Statesville Progress was the organizer and proceeds supported United Way of Iredell County and its 23 member agencies.

The event involved over 800 performers, admission was by donation only so that families without jobs could attend free.  Bumgarner says “Our goals were not just monetary:  we wanted to be the first community in the USA to hold this particular Guinness World Record and because our community’s unemployment is now nearing tripling in the last year, we wanted to provide outstanding entertainment for ALL, raising spirits as well as dollars.”
